These are Diane's thoughts on the project...

I started this project because I see it as a way to share ideas and honor traditional women's art. I like to act as a catalyst to bring people's creative side to the front. I think this is a way to keep us vital.

The opportunity to combine old traditions and new ways of communication, such as the internet, intrigue me. Finding ways to share what goes on in women's lives through sharing intimate stitching stories adds to my enthusiasm about this project.

I have been obsessed with Fabrics for most of my Artistic Life. I have been pursuing the process of making ceremonial clothing for women. Quilting is one of the techniques that has been used in traditional clothing, especially in cold climates.

Michele and I have known each other for over 40 years. At that time we had knit Irish Fisherman's sweaters together and had gone to a quilting show in Oakland, California that particularly inspired me.

We seem to act as facilitators to each other in getting out of ruts and doing something fulfilling. In high school Michele said, "We have to be Candy Strippers at the local hospital, so we will have something to put on our resumes in order to get a job." Then she had us working inventory at Macy's for a day, which was also a way to enhance or chances of getting a good job.

Michele has been a Girl Guide leader for many years in Ireland, so I think she is the perfect person to help us get this project off the ground. She has already done many projects that act as cultural exchanges with many different countries with the girls in the scouts.
